Recover digital images
Sadly, losing precious photos from
digital cameras is quite common. Should the worst happen to you,
however, don't panic just yet. We've dug out two tools that offer
free digital image recovery functions: PC Inspector Smart
Recovery and Zero Assumption Recovery (the latter is a
trial version of the full recovery package, but the digital image
recovery capabilities are free).
Recovering data from such devices is simple - either connect the
camera up to your PC so it's recognised as a removable drive, or
use a memory card reader instead.
With Zero Assumption Recovery, install and run the program
from here.
Click Proceed and select Recover images from camera
memory card followed by Proceed. The program can
actually scan all available drives for supported files (including
TIF, JPG, GIF, and even WAV sound files), so select the drive you
want to check and click Proceed again, then wait for the
program to do its work. Once done, tick the files you want to try
and recover and hopefully you'll regain access to them.
PC Inspector Smart Recovery works in a similar way. Install
and run the tool from
here. Select the drive containing the pictures you're desperate
to recover and then choose the type of file you wish to search for
from the drop-down menu. Select a location for the saved files to be
recovered to, review your settings and finally click Start.
Unlike Zero Assumption Recovery, you don't get to pick which
files to save - PC Inspector Smart Recovery will save all the
files it finds, but if you fail to find the file you're looking for
with one, try the other tool - you may have more luck.
